School Teacher
My dad worked as a construction worker for 25 years. His true passion was always teaching. He didn't want to teach the good kids, your AP students, your varsity athletes - he wanted to teach the "bad" kids. My dad always had a special affinity for kids who got in trouble with the teachers and who looked different, blue hair, lots of tattoos and piercings. So when he retired from H.B. Zachary he became a teacher for the on campus suspension kids for a middle school. If anyone needs people who likes them its middle school trouble makers. And my dad loved them.
Lots of stories came out during the funeral. The whole school came - every teacher and lots of kids and we heard story after story of funny things that dad did. One of my favorites that I knew instantly to be true was that according to the teachers he would hide behind the doors with a walky talky and as his kids walked by he would shout "nerd alert nerd alert". For the school Police Officer he harassed her daily by putting boxes of donuts on her desk or getting her donut t-shirts. He took all the cones from around the school and put them all on top of and around her car. He loooooved those kind of jokes and from the people and stories at the funeral people who were the targets loved them too.
To his credit as much as he loved trouble makes and bending the rules, he didn't like it if you BROKE the rules. Meaning if you actually hurt another person or stole something he would go after you as the Police Officer told at the funeral. She could always count on my dad to help apprehend someone she was chasing if necessary.
Just goes to show, everyone loves a prankster ;).
